Aston Martin Rapide E Powered By Integral e-Drive

Aston Martin Rapide E “Powered By” Integral e-Drive

  • Integral Powertrain to supply twin electric motors to produce over 610PS and 950Nm of torque creating most powerful Rapide model
  • Rapide E to be Aston Martin’s first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)
  • Aston Martin developing Rapide E with Williams Advanced Engineering

  • Features innovative 800V battery system; DC/DC converter facilitates fast charging, even on 400V network

Integral e-Drive, the electric drives division of Integral Powertrain Ltd, is pleased to announce its collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering as e-Drive technology partner for the Aston Martin’s first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the all-electric Aston Martin Rapide E.

As Aston Martin’s first all-electric model, the Rapide E spearheads the development of the marques low and zero emission vehicle strategy to meet the sustainability challenges set by recent legislative and regulatory changes. The project sees a continuation of the collaboration between themselves and Grove based Williams Advanced Engineering who, having worked on the earlier concept model will assist on the complex task of engineering integration.

Set for a limited production run of 155 cars, and built in a dedicated facility at Aston Martin’s St. Athan site, and will deliver four-door sports car looks and dynamics of the Rapide S powered by an all-electric powertrain replacing the six-litre V12 engine. The instantaneous delivery characteristics of electric motors means the Rapide E will offer a unique driving experience of a kind not experienced before in an Aston Martin.

Having partnered both Aston Martin and Williams Advanced Engineering for many years, the Rapide E project builds upon the well-established and continually growing reputation of Integral Powertrain’s e-Drive division to design, validate and manufacture some of the world’s most technically advanced, high performance e-Drives for both Automotive and Motorsport sectors.

Being an Aston Martin, the Rapide E is being developed with a high-performance objective. Projected top speed for the Rapide E is 155mph, with a sub-4.0sec 0-60mph time and a 50-70mph time of just 1.5sec.

Integral Powertrain Ltd was founded in 1998 by its current four directors as a successful powertrain engineering consultancy and has been designing e-Drive systems since 2003. Focussed on high performance electric motor technology, the proprietary core technology is configured to deliver world class leading e-Drives exactly matched to the performance and package requirements of the project.

A strong reputation has seen Integral Powertrain become a key partner for many global brands and the business has seen rapid growth in the sector over the past few years. The company has increased to over 150 employees and is scaling up the production of its key components and technologies with a £9.5m investment in new facilities and additional engineers; thus enabling further growth into a full electrification partner for global OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.

Luke Barker, Technical Director of Integral Powertrain said:

“We at Integral Powertrain have always pushed the boundaries of e-drive technology working with clients to find the best solution to meet their exact requirements.  This project with Aston Martin and Williams Advanced Engineering will draw on the extensive motor and EV experience gained over the past 20 years working with major OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers in automotive and motorsport sectors. We are extremely pleased to be supporting this prestigious British company with their future electrification strategy”
